Participate in SII, TESM, and SMC Events
As an IU Indianapolis student studying in the department of tourism, event, and sports management (TESM), you have the benefit of working with Indy's world-class sports and tourism organizations from the first day of class through graduation. You set yourself up for career success thanks to the unique experiences you will have with Indy as your classroom and the Sports Innovation Institute (SII) team in your court.
Innovation Sprints
Annually, the Sports Innovation Institute stages an innovation sprint, during which students are presented with a real-life problem to solve within 24-48 hours for organizations such as the NCAA and Indiana Sports Corp. Students develop teamwork, leadership, and networking skills through hands-on experiences.
Students from numerous majors on campus participate in the sprints. Students from the Kelley School of Business, Luddy School of Informatics, O'Neill School of Public Health, and other schools have been a part of our sprints.

Speaker Series
Leveraging contacts for the benefit of students is something that SII Director David Pierce and his colleague Geoff Sherman take pride in accomplishing. Noteworthy speakers are invited to campus throughout the school year to interact with students who participate in the SII Speaker Series. It's more than a lecture series--it helps students get into direct conversations with Indy's top innovators and thinkers who care about all things sports.

Sports Management Club
The Sports Management Club at IU Indianapolis (SMC) works closely with SII faculty member Geoff Sherman to volunteer at mega sporting events and engage with Indy's top sports executives and leaders. In addition to classroom experiences and SII research, students are able to immerse themselves in Indy's sports community through SMC participation. Sherman strives to get students behind the scenes and beyond the game. When they graduate, active students should be well-positioned for career entry and future success.
