Jay Gladden, founder of the Sports Innovation Institute at IUPUI, spoke at the Invention, Sport, Technology, and Society workshop at the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center on September 8, 2017.
The Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation has embarked on a multi-year research initiative to explore the impact of invention, technology, and innovation in sport.The Lemelson Center uses the research and knowledge developed through this effort to engage the public in a dialogue about the impact of sport and invention in society through exhibitions, public programs, publications, and digital outlets. To launch the sport initiative, the Lemelson Center convened a two-day workshop at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. to promote the exchange of ideas among a diverse group of inventors, scholars, athletes, educators, policy makers, and museum professionals.
Dr. Gladden spoke on the role invention and technology play in enhancing the experience of being a fan or spectator at stadiums, in arenas, and at home during the Technology, Innovation, and the Public Consumption of Sport panel.
